Yeah I know what you mean. Her voice is different from native Japanese speakers/singers. Not that Sakamoto's voice is bad at all. Its just unique so to speak from native speakers.

I must have watched/listened to this more than a hundred times and still love it as much as the first time hearing it.Does anyone have any idea where I can get a dvd copy of this?

A great song! But what else could one expect from a song composed by Shoko Suzuki?

LOL. Sorry, I wasn't being clear... I wasn't talking about an American accent. Ummmm, I'm not really sure how I should describe it, but different artists pronounce words slightly differently when they sing, and I could probably liken this to, say, Crystal Kay's or Ito Yuna's pronunciation (and both lived in the States). ^^;; Not that it's a bad thing. I just never noticed it before.

0_o I don't hear an American accent at all. She pronounces words very expressed like how you learn when you are formally trained in singing(you have to open your mouth really wide and say each syllable it gets annoying). Especially stage singing. Which she was doing at the time the documentary was filmed as Eponine in the 20th Anniversary of Les Miserables.

I just realized that Maaya sings in Japanese with a slightly strange accent... it reminds me of other Japanese singers who grew up in the States like Hikki and Yuna. Maybe it has to do with Maaya's English proficiency. I don't know. But this is a beautiful song nonetheless!! =)
