China Fire and Elk Complex Wildland Fire

The Colorado Springs based El Paso County Wildland Fire Crew Engine 2061 was deployed to California for the China, China-Back & Elk Complex wildland fires. Located in the Klamath National Forest along the Klamath river. We were dispatched by the Yreaka Dispatch Center, to Oak Knoll Ranger Station and on to Happy Camp, CA. This is our crew video.The video of the skycrane was taken from the safety zone for Branch I, Division Lima, Structure Protection Strike Team Simmons. We were tasked with protecting houses and preparing a defensive strategy for a 20,000 acre burn-out. We named the safety zone, the Cat Box, because it was a sand bar next to the Klamath river which just happened to be the dip point for the Type I Heavy Helicopter.
