I don't understand all the resentment. I like this video, and I don't see anything wrong with making a video based on the lyrics. Don't listen to these guys. Obviously Matt liked it, and he wrote the song. Whose opinion are you going to take?

Sorry for my earlier comment. The hostility wasn't necessary. I'm still really puzzled about why this video won. Save throwing in cliches and overwrought shots, all you did was literalise the song: where's the art? There's too much in the video. It's heavy-handed. Pleasure is derived from art when viewers have to fill in the narrative & thematic 'gaps' themselves, but your video has no gaps. I don't make videos, but a lack of alternatives doesn't give yours value. JadedMC was on the right track.

Mr Verboom is right. There's no need for a video that just makes images that match the lyrics. Why not be a tad creative. Instead of a visual backdrop, draw from the lyrics and make something that takes them further. Ive gotta say, this video is certainly not something Id want to watch more than once. I struggled to make it that far. It didn't bring anything new, nor did it's storytelling ring true to me. It seemed a bit forced and a tad amateurish. Also, the guy seemed like kind of a douche.

This is an absolutely terrible video. I don't know who actually judged this contest, but I'm extremely disappointed. The song already has a story: you have insulted everyone's sensibilities by imposing on it your trite and antipathetic 'sad story.' The blow scene was ridiculous. Shame on you. |
