Lennon was saying that the state of religion in England was such that the Beatles were more popular among the youth than religion (Jesus). The quote was taken out of context by schmucks like you to try to say that Lennon thought he was bigger than God, when in fact that was the last thing he intended.

What disgusts me is that people for no reason at all see John Lenon as some kind of hero. He was not a hero,he was nothing more than a atheistic piece of shit. John Lennon claimed that he would be more famous than Jesus Christ,and he also preached his own "sugar coated" vision of a Communist state. His song disgusts me as it speaks of eradicating religion in hopes of a "better world". He thinks that people will be happier believing that when they die,nothing happens.

Imagine no more hippies. I am glad Mark David Chapman shot and killed John Lennon with a .38 calibre revolver. The assassination has saved new generations of youth from being exposed to a continuance of Lennon's intellectual output. Chapman is a true Catcher in the Rye.The memory of Lennon will fade with time.
