It's considered cheating if you tap the bass drum head to play fast though. George doesn't use triggers during practice, rarely in the studios, and every time when he plays live.

only if you have the sensitivity set that way.I get plenty of power from my axis at HIGH speeds. but i use triggers and i can even get some dynamics out of the triggers. as when i hit it soft, it makes a quiet sound.

still, the sound wont be very clear but with triggers it is.with triggers there is no need to hit the bass very hard, thats why people say its cheating. but playing at high speeds like this, triggers are needed (if u want a good and clear sound)
