No it wasn't, the founding fathers were deistic and were wise to form a secular government. You just want a theocracy because right-wing christians have managed to evade taxation and establish a power base in the southern states. Proposition 8 is just another example of how your bigotry carries a large degree of democratic weight. There is a separation between church and state. The US government is secular, allowing freedom of expression. American is not a christian theocracy, and if it was it would end up like Iran. YOU are the ones that we tolerate.

It is a sin because it is said so in the bible. This country was built on the foundation of God. The pledge and government documents have it and prove it.

by religious jumbo i meant the old radical laws that the israelites had set down for their people. And actually i am firm believer in the wall of separation therefore even though i dont agree with a homosexual lifestyle i am completely aware that denying them the rights to marry is unconstitutional, cruel, and bigot.

SO you've admitted that some of the bible contains 'religious jumbo', which along with it containing allegory, paganist ideas and cultural biases...seems like a real sturdy document on which to justify the attitude towards homosexuals. By denying homosexuals the constitutional right to marriage, you are not being loving and open but attempting to justify prejudice. I find it strange that you would say some of the bible is not religious jumbo and not all of it, on the basis of...what?

lonerook860 ur right the bible does say to stone homosexuals, it also says one shouldnt wear clothes of mixed fibers becuase its a sin. however all of this is in the old testament and when jesus came to earth, he came with the purpose of eliminating all that religious jumbo. he came to remind us that being a christian is being loving n open and not shoving our beliefs down other's throats. so i believe ur wrong tru christians do not cherrypick we actually look at the bible in its entirety

The bible says to stone homosexuals to death, so yes you do cherry pick the bible according to what you can get away with under the US constitution. The truth is, a secular US government in theory grants every individual the right to equality and the pursuit of happiness. It's easy to justify your prejudice when you wield the apparent word of God. Homosexuality should not be encouraged within society, but there is no scientific evidence that it is a choice, or a sin.

I say that what a person does is between him/her and God. NO ONE has the right to place or assume Gods judgment on anyone. Mother teresa once said that she believed God is so merciful that hell must be empty. I believe that. It terrifies me as well because if he is that merciful one has to fear just how terrible his rath would be. Hell isnt a fire alone, hell is hell because it is Godless. You are literally no longer in Gods presence. He will never hear you. That is true hell.
