first off for all this halo book talk that i9s seperate from the game itself. The books are other halo stories and yes spartans do die but not in fight master chief s last spartan alive the others werw killed, or so it is believed, the reason everyones seem to think that they are dead, which they could be, is because it is not told in the game that there are others

well no they said no spartain could be killed in action for moral purpose to have a soldier that never died, but they do die, they grow old like us, they die like us

there were 200 candidates for it only 156 made it through selection only 76 made it as trainees and 14 died in trianing and only 33 made it through argumentation

technicaly he is the last spartan that the unsc knows is alive if you read the books they state several times that officially spartans cant die because they are symbolic to the human speciecs and the marines all spartans are listed as MIA and there are 2 spartan 2s that acctually are MIA and danteh is talking about the belive ad where they talk about master chief arming a plasma grenade and supposidly killing himself so the covenant didnt get there hands on his technology
