Actually the question should be not whether players like Borg, Laver and Connors could hit it hard but how hard could the players of today like Nadal, Federer, Murray and Djokovic with the wood rackets of those days.

Wow, Laver could still really move. His hands were still as good as ever.

Check out the foot-speed of Laver! Amazing! Still amazing when he's 100 years old here and he just zooms around the court like a ghost. Great anticipation and reflexes.

You may be absolutely right in your statements here. A shame that it's so difficult to obtain good quality videos of these players -- especially in their prime. Damn shame! This coming from a major Borg-fan...

Great Video! Great match! Whoever says they didn't hit the ball hard back then never saw this match. Do you have the other winner take all match, another classic, Connors vs. Newcombe?

Me reading Connors´ mind: "Damn, this old man is tough. Thank god it´s 1975, not 65."

This is great stuff. Thanks for posting it. I had heard of these "winer take all" matches when I was like 6 years old, but don't remember watching it. awesome. |
