most european manufacturers tend to a different demographic, alot of the euro manufacturers have the more expensive range of cars, and the ppl who buy them usually arent affected by the crisis we're n now, aside from vw and i bet their sales are down as well, and if im not mistaken aston martin is laying off 600 ppl just to keep their operations going, and trust if the big 3 do make it they will be back on top in the future

The Big thing is that this is nothing new! in the 70's there was an oil crisis. US car manuf. were making gas guzzling landyahts! It was the trend, but it burried the companies! (sound familiar) Its becuase of That crisis the door for Japanies and euro imports rose in the US. they made small but reliable cars that got decent gas mileage. The Minivan, the ford torus got america outa that hole. but lessons werent learned. ive seen this coming YEARS AGO!!! it was only a matter of time.

i get were your coming from, but you dont know how ruthless american companies Especially car manufacures were with there employees when there werent unions to protect you. And just think,, you work for a company for years, building a pention for retirement then POOF its gone!, your old cant get a job and have to live in this high economy!. all the while the company that MADE TERRIBLE decisions in car manufacturing just gets of scott free!!! no way. they made there grave, they gota use it.

Agreed 100%. I mean, I don't want the vette to be expensive because I love using it as the world's flagship of price/performance, but i know where you were coming from. At least in america, I see corvettes every day, but when I see a ferrari it turns heads. So I definately see where you are coming from and agree for the most part, just not specifically on the vette.

The government loan would have been used by the big 3 to pay off the remaining retirement and pensions to the workers. They are still selling enough cars that they would be making immense profits if it weren't for the damn unions.

The z06 has good fuel economy, credit. But why and how? Well they had to make a plan to get better economy because of the gas-guzzler tax. So what did they do? They tried their best with the engine, and well done. But they also changed the gearbox to lock out 2nd gear at CRUSING speeds, forcing you to go straight to 4th. So if you drive softly, you'll have great fuel economy. But FULL THROTTLE fuel economy numbers? PLUS Gearbox goes 1st-2nd instead of 4th, then the fuel economy arguement goes.

True, European supercars do suck a lot of fuel to get their power, but so do American cars. You keep quoting the z06 as the holy grail, but once again, I'm talking about the two continent's engineering prowess, not any individual example. Most other American cars not only have large displacement but ALSO poor fuel economy. Again, fuel economy isn't a relevant topic for supercars. Fuel economy numbers refer to crusing. Im talking about max power at full throttle.
