I understand the point he is trying to get across, and I respect his opinion. but i only have this to say... if love is evil, its not worth being good

This guys is just flogging a dead horse. I don't think he's a good philosopher, and I find him hard to watch, it's superficial but that lisp is really grating. He's basically saying love is selfish, which is obvious anyway.

also very platonic -- remember socrates expounding on why the philosopher desires death?

im quite sure he hates the irresponsible way in which humans upset balance with love.it has everything to do with ithere's the problem.1. he only describes one definition of 'love' and then uses it as an umbrella for each. 'love' is often used as an exaggeration of any positive feeling. (eg i love the world)2. love and hate are two sides to the same coin. you cant 'either hate the world or be indifferent'Zizek is too human to grasp true universal concepts (as we all are)

"IN THIS SENSE, love is evil." as i understand it, zizek is talking about a specific kind of love, one which is idealistic and unequivocally merciful. for zizek, indiscriminately applying this sort of love to idealize the other is irresponsible and inhumane. instead our love should be honest and truthful to their faults. zizek doesn't hate the world because it's unbalanced, he hates it because it's full of faults.very nietzschean.

the way i understand it, zizek's talking about a specific sense of love ("IN THIS SENSE, love is evil") that idealizes the other without condition. its "evilness" has nothing to do with balance or imbalance, but rather its inhumanity. to unequivocally love out of mercy is not to accept someone's faults, but to ignore them, which for zizek is irresponsible.

you are totally misunderstanding what he is trying to say. when he uses terms like evil or violent- it's not in a negative way. like he said- it's a balancing actall he means is reality receives a cut. like there is an imbalance & something needs to be rectified. it's not necessarily good or bad, it's just a significant moment when something occurs & either upsets the balance or balances something out. it's a shift in ordinary reality- it is the same as saying there is a shift or change.

this dude is whack! wtf is he talking about? How do you go from "I have a spontaneous affinity for quantum physics here..." to love caused an imbalance and is evil. If you hate the world so goddamn much slit your wrists vertically and remove yourself from it. If you do nothing to change what you hate you have no grounds to bitch about
