Yes it was called emo back then. Promise Ring, Cap'n Jazz, Braid, Jawbreaker, Owen, American Footbal, The Owls, Jade Tree records, etc... EMO. It was an east coast thing mostly DURING THE EARLY 90's. Then record labels found a new way to tag shitty punk bands, and presto-bango "Emo" now means something entirely different. You 'don't see why' because you don't know what you're talking about.
