sammie davis jr sucks balls. period. and yes, hip hop & sophistication can be used in the same sentence if wanted. it's called rhetoric. google it if you don't understand it's meaning. also, hip hop has been around for a lot longer than you may think. using the disco analogy merely shows me that you don't really have the musical sophistication to make any informed statements about music. (well that & the whole sammie davis debacle). your age is relevant because haven't made any connections yet

Actually. It doesn't. And Sammy belongs on EVERYONE'S top 5. His talent surpassed nearly everyones. Range as a singer, dancing, impressions, acting, musician. You really don't get much more talented or better than Sammy. And really? You're including "Hip-hop" and "sophistication" in the same paragraph? Now, I mean if you were talking about any other form of music before the 70s, I can agree but yeah. Hip Hop is nothing more than a joke and will HOPEFULLY take its place beside Disco.

your age is definitely relevant. also, sammie davis doesn't belong in ANYONE'S top 5. nuff said. indeed, i'll quote your age; you haven't lived a lot of life. when you have, you'll understand why i say that. also, you're not old enough to have witnessed the evolution of hip hop. you're not at the point where you make the connection of hip hop to other music. you haven't heard enough music to make informed comments about hip hop. you're not sophisticated. don't get mad, this a learning experience
draganryo (January 1, 1970 at 7:29 am)
Wow. Are you REALLY bringing up my age? Well, as someone who considers Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Beatles as his top five, don't you even DARE quote age to me and say I can't know because I'm young. There's a little thing called cds. And besides, if you read what I put I DID mention I had not heard his entire repertoire, but I everything I HAVE I love and I haven't hear a Rap or Hip-Hop song that can match it.

at 19, you weren't even exposed to the very early days. you probably think eric b & rakim is old school. like i said, there's some that's very good, there's some that's poor. also, at age 19, you couldn't possibly have explored billy joel's entire body of work; at least not to the point that you can say that everything he's done has been good.

Well considering rap and hip-hop is what I've had to listen to growing up...I'm gonna have to believe I've listened enough to it. I mean the VERY early days are good looking back on it, because it's not all this heavy stuff that's being forced into the American public today.
