Some recent comments indicate a misconception about graphic data Gore presented in his movie. Specifically, evidence published in recent journal articles (Royer in Nature, Ahn in Science) document warming driven by CO2 over millions of years of Earth history, but the graphs have been misinterpreted as showing that CO2 only follows warming rather than preceding it. In fact, as the data show, it does both. In recent years, CO2 has always come first, starting in 1850 with CO2 and 1910 for warming.

Bamboo - You raise an important point. Individuals can reduce their carbon footprint through energy conservation (insulation, reset thermostats, energy-saver devices, fluorescent bulbs, etc), fuel efficient vehicles, walking rather than driving when practical, or even solar panel installation in some cases. However, adequate CO2 mitigation also requires society-wide decisions involving carbon control measures and investments in alternative energy. Some of this has started, but it is still slow.
