>> and so if people have a problem holding their attention to this format, unless they have some kind of ADHD issue they are most likely deficient in their inherent educability. Indeed, some subjects like math cannot really be taught in any other way, & math comprehension is a strong indicator of educability of ANY abstract subject. It is not heartless to state the truth. About 40-50% of all college students would be better off in the trades, for their financial & professional well being.

It strikes me as odd that anybody would need more than a clear textbook, an engaging & talented teacher presenting the material, & a blackboard or other such display whereon the teacher may write while speaking. I say this because this format has worked for centuries, & that it is in no way limiting to the data being presented. All mathematics can be understood this way. All languages as well. Some other subjects diverge a bit, but overall this teaching format works completely.

Everybody notice the ridiculous sensibilities displayed here from bagel that are increasingly found in our warped society. It is assumed that because I hold a different opinion & promote it strongly, that this is evidence of lack of self-esteem, close-mindedness, incivility, stupidity, & having 'no life'.Bagel's feelings are hurt. But this isn't about Bagel. It is about the IDEAS expressed. And we should be free to have our ideas fight with each other so as to determine truth.

1) The video itself is, largely, about how monolithic teaching techniques do not meet the needs of today's student who is accustomed to a more diverse array of media as data sources, & so if hampered by these anachronist tendencies in education.2) You agreed with this basic premise, placing blame on educators who don't exert enough effort to adapt their teaching to the needs of their students. You made no other major points. Your additional comments just supported the primary point.

Teaching in a fashion that requires teachers and professors to do more than get off their ass and write on a chalkboard then issue exams every now and then isn't asking much at all, so I don't see where your taking offense here is coming from.I have no problems learning either way, but I like any other person with a heart, feel sympathy for people who struggle because they learn differently. Many people have wasted money and time on books & tuition due to a lazy, complacent professor...sad

Aside from the incivility of lambasting a complete stranger and making assumptions about them based on your limited/absolutely void knowledge of them, I must say that I pity your lack of self-esteem and inability to deal with an opinion that counteracts your own. Insult me all you want, it won't garner any respect for your half-brained musings on the learning styles of complete strangers. You fall into the quintessential role of the know-it-all YouTuber with no life...congratulations =)

Inaccurate, actually. My original post consisted of agreeing with the truth in this video, then stating that I blame this issue on complacent teachers/professors. AFTER that, with basic English literacy, You can see I was talking about an expression of what they know."I think options that will help students express that they understand and comprehend what they know effectively and soundly will do wonders for our education system as a whole"So no, complacent teachers weren't my "whole point"
PhilosopherEight (August 29, 2008 at 2:52 am)
bagel forgot his logic lessons right as he was talking about english. This isn't a rebuttal we see from him.Your WHOLE POINT was about how teachers teach in limited styles & how this supposedly improperly restricts students' ability to learn. Right? We got the english connection going on right? That IS what you meant - right? And my point is then if you have limited channels of educability, perhaps you are not all that educable? Those of us who are educable can learn in any way needed.
TheEsotericBagel (August 29, 2008 at 12:56 am)
lol, I don't recall ever saying I had an inability to learn in this style or multiple styles, so apparently You should examine YOURSELF in terms of being "intelligent enough to be truly educable"...really =pMy point that I was making was an expression of what you know or learned in the form of a project. I might write a paper better than say you would do making a graphic presentation. At what point does this equate to an inability to learn? Perhaps YOU should drop out, or take remedial English
