"before Chet got there."? Chet was a studion musician and played on alot of early Elvis and other rock and roll records in the 50's. Even Carl would recognize Chet as a pioneer, he just didn't bother with the crazy showmanship that was associated with rockabilly groups like Elvis, Carl, Jerry Lee etc.

Carl Perkins was playing rockabilly long before Chet got there. Carl and his brother used to rock up old hillbilly music and play it for local crowds. Brian, The Beatles, Fogarty, Clapton and dozens of other big name artists credit Carl Perkins as one of their greatest inspriations.
