Ingrid Betancourt was kidnapped by the FARC 6 years ago on her way to visit her dying father in the Jungle in Colombia. She also happened to be campaigning for the presidency. She has been the highest profile captive of the FARC for a myriad of reasons, for being a woman, for being a presidential candidate, and also for having her cause taken up by new French president Nicolas Sarkozy who has adamantly campaigned for her rescue since his election to office last year. She is a dual French-Colombian citizen.Betancourt was rescued with other hostages amongst which were 3 Americans who were taken by the FARC 5 years ago after their plane crashed on a informational recognizance mission. They were the longest currently-held American hostages until their release yesterday. The rescue mission was in effect an undercover operation by the Colombian military to infiltrate the FARC. After years of careful preparation, they landed a helicopter in a FARC camp decked out in Che Guevarra t-shirts to pass themselves off as another rebel group supposedly aiding in the transfer of the captives. The hostages themselves were unaware that they were being rescued at the time and were combative at first, figuring that they were being moved to another camp. It seems like some shit out of a bad action movie. Hear Ingrid tell it herself at the press conference she gave shortly after arriving in Bogota.

So two wrongs make a right. The problem with you anti-america idiots is that you claim to hate america for it's policies, yet you embrace terrorist groups such as farc and al queda, who practice similar if not worse policies. Anyone who supports FARC is an idiot, they are a plague on their own country. They kidnap hundreds of their own civillians, in export tons of cocaine across the world. If you hate the US for it's policies, why embrace other groups that do the same. Hypocrisy?

....for? I think not. Sometimes, you have to match the might your up against, or you just can't win. Drugs, though not my thing, and like it or not, is just another commodity controlled by supply and demand. These Columbian drug lords are not on the streets of America forcing people use their drugs. Also, you would solve the problem of black market, extremly wealthy drug lords, as well the HUGE prison population in the US, by legalizing them, and letting consenting adults do what they want.

Who made her up sir? the captors who got tricked into giving her to the government army? The government army themselves? And I'm being dumb? C'mon now. Yes, they held that woman for over six years. Yes, that is unfortunate. "anyone who kidnaps civilians for years", Sounds like the US government to me, no? "And sells drugs", again, you know how I feel about that. Was Jimmy Hoffa wrong to team up with the Mafia in order to match the muscle the goon squads had that the companies paid....

I do not even watch fox news, but anyone who kidnaps civillians for years, chain them to trees (betancourt own account) and sells drugs is no good organiazion. You do know that there is such things as make-up, and that the captives probably were glammed up not to look like zombies. They held that poor woman for over six years and all you can talk about is abu grab. You are 100% stupid. In your mind everyone: US is evil and everyone who opposes US is good. NOt everything is that clear cut.

Wait one minute, they fund there revolution any way they have to, especially being the other side is funded preimarily by the USA. Furthermore, tell me what the difference is between drug dealers and Glaxo Smith-Klein? And hanging civilians by chains from trees?? you see that on Fox News? This woman, a captive for YEARS, looked pretty healthy. Now look how the prisoners at Abu Grab, or Gitmo look. Yes, I am 100% on FARC's side.

Yoseman1: Farc sells drugs to fund their insurgency. They kidnap civillians and hang them by chains to trees...and you side with them like they are the good guys.

Me, me, me..... there is a world out there. Bertancourt thinks the world starts and ends with her. Why is she french and a president candidate in Colombia? What about the real colombians? Maybe that is the core of the problem?

Also, this woman was a captive FOR YEARS. She looks pretty healthy. Now see Abu Grab.

To be honest with you, I use common sense. I know that US corporate interests, a crooked and twisted Columbian government, Israel (enough said), etc., are against them. When I see these people on one side, I usually join the other team. But, on a more knowledgable level, I have read many writings of Jacobo Arenas. I admire the way he thinks, and an organization founded on the principles of free education, free health care, equal rights, and so on, (like FARC) is something I'm down with.
