Man, stupid metal stereotypes are all caused by peeps like you. So some metal is dark. Okay so lots of metal is dark. Lots of it really really really isn't. The Great Debate by Dream Theater is a true metal epic, with lyrics about the debate over Stem Cell Research, for instance. Metal isn't all about stereotypical death/blood/war/peace (somehow stereotypical metal stuff manages to be anti-war but pro-violence, I don't understand it but hey) /bondage/anti-establishment. Listen to Porcupine Tree.

Dream Theater with an ER. You know the drummer's grandad came up with that name because they were called Majesty but just before the release of their first album on a record label (When Dream and Day Unite) a Las Vegas band called Majesty threatened to sue. They nearly went to "Glasser" but decided on Dream Theater as kind of a last-ditch thing because they needed a name before the album came out. And what a band they turned into. They aren't really metal, though. Too wide-ranging is thier style
