i dont think the song is about being high, what are you basing that on? i know Morrison liked to dabble in lsd, but id say it was more about alienation and being an outsider. The doors, and particularly morrison, were seen as on the fringe of society due to their love of hippy culture. They wrote the song when they were walking on laurel canyon, and were apparently both in a depressed mood, meaning it could be a manifestation of Morrison's vulnerability. John Dennsmore supports this view.
