I went to Thailand for a month earlier this year and stayed at a hostel my last week cause i was dangerously short of money. They gave me this wafer thin bed to sleep on witch had a dip in the middle. Anyway, the bed broke 2nights before I was due to leave and the owners were demanding 10,000 baht off me even though it must have only cost 2,000if that. The police told me if i didnt give the owner my expensive camera instead of the money(I didn't have the $) then i would go to jail.

The man, who on the video is being accused of being mafia, actually mentions "1200" and "5000" Baht. But the policeman is talking about "12.000" and "55.000 Baht". So that makes this video a different story. I am not 100 % sure, but my Thai isn't that bad either, I am not joking. Maybe someone else who is able to understand both Thai and English can confirm my translation.

Oooh, here's another idea, ok. Jetskis are A Danger To Swimmers, ie Other People On Holiday Enjoying Themselves, Jetskis are also Very Noisy and Polluting of the Environment, so here's an idea! Armed with these facts, and the knowledge you probably will get ripped off anyway, if you Still Go Ahead And Rent One - Som Nom Na - Orrr, as the locals say SERVES YOU BLOODY RIGHT.

PS The suggestion you tell them you will call your embassy is a very good one also. Tourists forget - they're just a bunch of peasants trying to make a good working man's salary for a month, in five minutes and not giving a crap about the reputation of their country. THREATEN TO CALL YOUR EMBASSY AND DON'T PAY - You only encourage the little bastards.

I've lived here on Phuket for fifteen years and I've known some of the jetski scammers, I won't use the word 'mafia' - makes them look cool and they aren't. DON'T PAY ANYTHING. TAKE A CAMERA. TAKE A PICTURE OF THEM. Photos are everything here! Threaten to put them on the internet. I know it sounds hard, but it isn't DON'T PAY. How do you think they started this scam in the first place???
