Peak Moment 69: How will rising oil prices affect low- and middle-class lives? Sociologist and professor Rowan Wolf sees at-risk populations growing while government services and class divides are increasingly strained. A member of the Portland Peak Oil Task Force, she discusses relocalizing our economies, to counter globalization based on an unsupportable grow-or-die economic model.

The problem is over consumption, the comsumption will have to be lowered if we are to avoid a genocide. But we usaly get used to a sertain level of cunsumtion and cutting back on it becomes much harder then you may think. Just imagine having TV and freezer rations...

i dont think you know how much the stuff you buy at the mall would cost without cheap labour from immigrants prices would skyrocket if the immigrants left!

3-1 in return is a very bad energy return compared to conventional oil which has about 100-1 and thats the point. our way of life is only possible because oil drilled out of the ground gives such a high return on energy theres NOTHING compared to it that will enable us to live the way we do now.my best gues is that the net energy win will be much bigger than 3-1 if one would use woodgas made out of biomas to fuel combustion engines. this way there still would be enough fuel to use for traktors

yes, though it was actually the synthesized version of the active ingredient in the berry that was banned. The berry is legal to grow, buy and consume. I think there is someone that sells them online. He grows in Florida, I believe.

I heard about this berry on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now show last week--she ate the berry and then a lemon, and the lemon tasted sweet to her. Apparently the berry was suppressed (not accepted by the Food & Drug Admin) because it would've cut into profits of the big sugar producers. Politics, not health reasons.

maybe you're right, we probably should base what we think about arguments on how much the person looks like bill gates. Have fun in your hummer, I'm sure it will make a spacious shelter when you can no longer buy gas in your area

check out the 'miracle berry'. I know it sounds like a made up name, but it is a berry that actually makes sour things (like limes or lemons) and makes them taste sweet. It's pretty cool.

Yeah... taking what could be food and use it for car fuel... the internationalization of genocide.
