Paul Nicholas does sort of sound like a demented psycho chipmunk, but I don't think he ruins the song. He makes the character appear even more batshit insane than in the original song.

Entwistle...Angelic voice, but their was sadness in his voice...Douche in the movie...Sounds like a chipmunk on acid and ruins a great song from the album
