you've just gotta pick it up and start playin man.just pluck it with your thumb, hit it with your thumb, pluck with your other fingers - just keep messing with it. I was in the same boat and after 2 years I can't believe how much I've improved. nothing will do it but time/practice, just pick it up and mess around with itannd learn scales, like pentatonics or whatever

First, fifth, ninth.The basic position is like a power chord, but instead of the octave, that finger is two frets up.
